Wordawazzle · The Australian Wordle-Style Daily Word Game

How to play

The Australian Wordle, with a true-blue twist

Wordawazzle is a daily Aussie word game that plays like Wordle. Every answer has an Australian connection: a town, a critter, a bit of slang, a beach, or something you’d find at a barbie. Type a five-letter word, hit Enter, and the tiles show how close you are.

The rules

  1. Guess the hidden Aussie word in six tries.
  2. Every guess must fill the row: five letters in Daily and Unlimited, the length of the surname in Celebrity. Use the on-screen keyboard or your own, then press Enter.
  3. After each guess the tiles flip and change colour to show how close you were.
  4. The keyboard keeps track: keys turn red, blue or grey to match the tiles.
  5. In Daily and Unlimited each guess must be a real word, and Aussie slang and place names count. The answer always comes from the Wordawazzle word list.

What the colours mean

Red with a star

The letter is in the word and in the right spot. K stays put. Ripper.

Blue

The letter is in the word, but somewhere else. I belongs in a different spot. Close, mate.

Grey

The letter isn’t in the word at all. N can be crossed off.

Repeated letters follow the same logic. If the answer has one O and you guess a word with two, only one lights up. The other goes grey.

Tips from the outback

  • Open with vowels. Aussie words love an O and an A. KOALA, DINGO and SMOKO cover a lot of ground.
  • Think like a local. Places, slang, wildlife, food and footy. If it belongs on a servo sign or a stubby holder, it’s probably in the list.
  • Trust the grey. A grey key is gone. Don’t guess it again.
  • Watch for doubles. YOBBO, CHOOK and DUNNY have tripped up plenty of players.
  • Try hard mode. Turn it on in Settings and every hint you find must be used in your next guess.

Questions, mate?

Is Wordawazzle an Australian version of Wordle?

Yes. It plays like Wordle, but every answer is an Australian word, place or famous Aussie. It’s an independent fan-made game and isn’t affiliated with Wordle or the New York Times.

Is it free?

Yes. No account, no app, no paywall. Open it in any browser and play.

When does the new word come out?

At midnight Sydney time (AEST, or AEDT during daylight saving). Everyone in Australia gets the new word at the same moment, so it lands a bit earlier in the evening in Brisbane, Adelaide, Darwin and Perth.

Can I play more than once a day?

The Daily word is one per day, but Unlimited deals a new word whenever you like, and Celebrity gives you a second daily puzzle.

Does my guess have to be a real word?

In Daily and Unlimited, yes. Every guess must be a real five-letter word, and Aussie slang and place names from the list count too. In Celebrity mode any letters are accepted, since surnames are not in the dictionary.

How do I share my score?

When a game ends, tap Copy result. You get a spoiler-free grid of red, blue and white squares to paste into the group chat.
